Bashkortostan is a land of mountainous landscapes. About 20 of them are known in the republic. The best time to visit them is in the spring. Filled with clear melt water, the waterfalls are especially spectacular and demonstrate the maximum of their strength and power. And in summer, most of them dry up almost completely, leaving behind only small rocky streams.

Many waterfalls in Bashkortostan are located in protected areas or are themselves natural monuments and are subject to protection. Among the most famous are Kuk-Karauk, Gidelsha, Atysh, Abzanovsky, Kuperlya. Almost all of them are in accessible places and are often visited by fans of ecotourism. In the vicinity of some waterfalls, cozy bases for vacationers have been built.

Atysh

One of the most interesting sights of Bashkortostan is the “shooting” waterfall. A natural monument on the territory of the Beloretsk region. Formed by the underground river Atysh. It flows out, or even “shoots out,” from a large cave grotto of a mountain called Yash-Kuz-Tash. And then a wide stream falls from a 4-meter height into a small lake. The age of the limestone rocks at the location of the unique waterfall is 570 million years.

Kuperlya

It is located on the stream of the same name, a tributary of the Nugush, as part of the Bashkiria National Park. One of the most picturesque and popular waterfalls in the republic. In high water, it rushes down in a powerful stream from 3 ledges with a total height of 18-20 meters. Usually dries up in summer. Upstream, nature created a karst bridge in the form of a huge arch. And also nearby is the Nugush reservoir. On its banks there are tourist centers, sanatoriums and camps.

Gadelsha (Ibragimovsky)

A three-stage waterfall in the Baymaksky region, on the slopes of the Irendyk ridge. The largest in Bashkortostan. Formed by one of the tributaries of the Khudolaz River. The total height is within 20 meters. It looks most spectacular in spring. In some places, the water has a reddish tint - this is where deposits of valuable jasper come to the surface. A natural monument, in the vicinity there are more than 250 plant species, including those from the Red Book. The tourist center of the same name is located nearby.

Cook-Karauk

It is located on the river of the same name near the village of Makarovo, on the territory of the Ishimbay reserve. Natural monument. Consists of several cascades. Water falls from a 12-meter height and merges into one stormy stream, rushing over the boulders. It demonstrates its greatest power during the period of intense snow melting, and dies down in summer. A large grotto can be seen to the left of the waterfall. Nearby, surrounded by picturesque landscapes, there is a recreation center.

Mogak

Located in the gorge of Mount Kandyvil, on the territory of the Abzelilovsky district, 4 km from the village of Salavatovo. Formed by the fall of the river of the same name, flowing along the Kryktytau mountain range. Consists of 5 cascades, the most powerful jet falls on the lower ledge. The total height is over 20 meters. The best time to visit Mogak waterfall is late April-May, spring flood. In summer, the roaring mountain stream turns into a barely visible stream.

Sharlama

It is located in the Aslykul natural park, on the territory of the Davlekanovsky district. It is formed by the waters of the Sharlama stream flowing into the nearby lake Aslykul - the largest natural monument in Bashkiria. The height of the waterfall reaches 12 meters. The best time to visit it is during the snow melting period and after heavy rains. In summer, it looks like barely noticeable streams flowing down from the top of the cliff. There is a spring with drinking water at the foot of Sharlama.

Shumilovsky

Natural monument. It is located in the Tuymazinsky district, not far from the Kandrykul lake. Numerous thin streams of water flow down from the 3-meter hill and form a transparent water curtain. There is a grotto behind it. Its walls are streaky and formed, like most of the surface of the hill, by calcite deposits and petrified moss. The entire rock is dotted with passages, canals, caves, grottoes, inside one of them there is a small lake.

Abzanovsky (Assinsky, Mirror)

Natural monument. Another name is Men's Tears. It is located in the vicinity of the villages of Abzanovo and Asy, in the Arkhangelsk region. Small streams of water rush down from the 6-meter sheer cliff Weeping Stone directly into the Inzer River. In summer, the waterfall dries up and only slightly oozes in smooth streams along the rock, creating the illusion of a mirror surface. In winter, the waterfall is no less beautiful - its frozen streams form intricate ice figures.

Kulyurt-Tamak

It is located in a gorge with steep rocky sides, in the valley of the Belaya River, next to the famous Kul'yurt-Tamak cave, also known as the Cosmonauts' cave. It has two stages, the height of the fall of the water flow is 14-15 meters. Few tourists know about the location of this waterfall, so the nature in its vicinity is almost completely wild. Shrubs and birches grow nearby, pines grow higher up the slope. Belongs to the Shulgan-Tash reserve.

Desyatkinsky threshold

It is located on the Bir River, 12 km from the city of Birsk. The name is associated with the nearby village of Desyatkino. The river bed is folded in this place with hard limestone tuff. Previously, a small hydroelectric power station was built here, now only the threshold has been preserved. It consists of 2 steps, the height of the ledges is 1.5-2 meters. A crater with a diameter of 20 meters and a depth of up to 5 meters was formed near the threshold. The surroundings are very picturesque, there are a lot of fish in the river, and beaver families live.
