Cyprus in April - or not worth it? We close the main questions: is it possible to swim, what things to take and what to be ready for?

We were in Cyprus in the hottest month - July. The scorching sun and stuffiness killed in the literal sense: it is impossible to exist without an air conditioner for more than 15 minutes. After such an experience, I have sworn to vacation in Cyprus at the height of the season, but I am thinking of flying in April. Why?

April in Cyprus is the very spring that we all love so much and which in Russia is usually called summer. The trees are blooming, the grass turns green, the sun warms pleasantly, the sea is clear and azure, as always. A tour to our hotel is 30 thousand cheaper ... Do you feel the benefits? 🙂

Cyprus opens to tourists from Russia from April 1, 2021. But on certain conditions, including passing 2 PCR tests. We will tell you more about the new entry rules in the first section of the text.

Do I need a visa to Cyprus?

In 2021, after the opening of the borders, the rules changed. If earlier Russians needed a pro-visa (online and free) to enter Cyprus, now:

  • 72 hours before departure, you must pass the PCR test - the result must be in English (for example, the Hemotest laboratory is exactly suitable).
  • Register your Cyprus Flight Pass in 24 hours - this is a control system for arriving foreigners, and upload the test result there.
  • Upon arrival in Cyprus at the airport to pass the next PCR test - at your own expense (€ 30- € 32 per person). Wait for the results in your hotel - they promise that it will take no more than 3 hours in time, but delays may occur.

These requirements have already been worked out by Cyprus for tourists from other countries (for some, the island opened in early spring).

Beach holidays in Cyprus - weather in April

If the goal is a purely beach holiday, then the middle of spring still loses to summer. Cyprus weather in April is great for healthy sunbathing, hiking and sightseeing even at noon. No exhausting stuffiness, few people. And for swimming - subjectively, in April +19, you can freeze.

Temperature of water and air in Cyprus

The whole of Cyprus in early April warms up to a maximum of + 25 ° C, but rarely. On average, outside + 21 ° С ... + 22 ° С and very good-ro-sho. From the second half of the year, the air temperature is already stable in the region of + 25 ° С. Precipitation (rains), storm winds and sandstorms occur for one to two days.

It's cool at night, + 15 ° С… + 17 ° С, so don't forget to put a warm jacket and jeans in your suitcase.

The water temperature in Cyprus in April ranges from + 17 ° C to + 20 ° C - with such a forecast, it would seem, only to wet the feet, and not to swim. But according to reviews, at the end of April, the sea is full of adults with children, and someone dives in the first days (br-rr).

Prices for tours to Cyprus in April 2021

The main plus of Cyprus in the spring is cheap tours. How else to lure tourists in the low season? I always look for and buy tours on online aggregators:

  • Travelata
  • Level.Travel
  • Onlinetours

Because, firstly, they are convenient: services collect offers from all major tour operators, compare and display in order from profitable to expensive. Secondly, the prices for tours can be "knocked down" by promotional codes.

✓ The most budgetary vacation in Cyprus in April will cost 37,000 rubles - this amount starts the price for a tour for two for 7 days (with breakfasts and dinners!)

✓ Do you recognize only "all inclusive"? Practicing AI hotels in Cyprus cost from 65,000 rubles for the same week together.

✓ The cost of family tours - mom, dad, child - from 60,000 rubles; for 14 days (tourists with children love this :)) - from 75 thousand.

Cyprus resorts - where is the best place to relax in April?

In April, the island wakes up, and as a pleasant bonus, it is not yet filled to capacity with tourists - you can forget about the queues in cafes and water parks. In all coastal towns the climate is approximately the same, so you can answer where it is better to relax in Cyprus in April, based on your plans for the "active" part of the vacation (do you have one?).

Consider the most famous resorts in Cyprus:

  • Protaras - a village in the east. Usually tourists choose it because of the beaches with fine white sand, which look like the Maldives. In uncompromising April, Protaras will appeal to those who wish to relax well, very quietly and calmly. Sitting on the beach and looking at the sea - what could be more comfortable, right?
  • Ayia Napa - so noisy in the season, at the beginning of the month it deafens with its silence. But this is not for long. In mid-April, the flow of tourists increases, and nightclubs and beaches habitually welcome crowds of young people. The reviews say that Ayia Napa has the best water park in the country, Waterworld Waterpark (€ 38 per adult, in 2021, open from April 17). Which is tempting, considering that the sea in Cyprus in April is more about hardening than swimming.
  • Pathos - this is about excursions. The beaches are mostly pebbly, but sandy ones can also be found (eg Coral Beach). April weather is great for exploring the many historical sights in the Paphos area. We were very impressed by the trip to Akamas National Park - there you can walk along wild beaches with turtle eggs buried in gray sand the size of a grapefruit!
  • Larnaca - convenient for its location near the airport. A port city where prices in shops and cafes are lower than in the rest of Cyprus. There is a long promenade and sandy beaches with a gentle slope into the sea. 3 km from Larnaca is the famous Salt Lake, which dries up by summer, but at the beginning of April it is still filled with water. If you are lucky, on the reservoir you can see flocks of migratory flamingos that winter here.
  • Limassol - all year round the most Russian-speaking (many compatriots-migrants). It is good with children here - a bunch of playgrounds are "broken" around the city, but the sand on the beaches is quite good - gray in color. The sunny days of April coincide perfectly with walking along the promenade overlooking the port and tastings of inexpensive Cypriot wines in nearby wine-growing villages (for example, in Pareklisia).

A selection of hotels in Cyprus - top 8

Not every hotel is open in April (but all of our selection are open). Let us also mention the features - in Cyprus, even 5-stars can ask for a surcharge for using the refrigerator or for wi-fi in the room. Plus, the beaches are public, and the maximum that a hotel can offer (not every one, of course) is an area with free sun loungers.

PROTARAS

  • 5 * Tsokkos Constantinos The Great Beach is one of the most popular hotels in Protaras. Nice beach with free sun loungers, location in the center of town and adequate food (all inclusive). Of the minuses - it clearly does not reach the "five", besides the general "wear", the hotel for many years (although it was renovated last year).
Tour price: from 65,000 rubles (breakfast and dinner)
  • 3 * Evalena Beach Hotel - clean and comfortable "treshka" on the first line, sandy beach with paid sun loungers; tourists celebrate excellent breakfasts and dinners
Tour price: from 50,000 rubles (breakfast and dinner)

LIMASSOL

  • 3 * Kapetanios Limassol Hotel is a solid "troika" with a beach across the road. The food is average, the rooms are a little tired, but people like it.
Tour price: from 53,000 rubles (breakfast)
  • 3 * Navarria Hotel is a simple hotel, somewhat like a boarding house, but small, five minutes from the sea.
Tour price: from 45 000 rubles (breakfast)

AYIA NAPA

  • 4 * Tsokkos Paradise Village - a hotel for families with children; close to the beach, but across the road (and the best beach in Ayia Napa is Makronisos), delicious cuisine and a huge swimming pool.
Tour price: from 55,000 rubles (breakfast and dinner)
  • 4 * Tasia Maris Seasons Hotel - if the previous hotel is located away from the whole crowd of Ayia Napa, then this one, on the contrary, is in its very epicenter. The hotel is new, 10 minutes walk to the sea, the beach is normal, 2 km is the famous Nissi Beach (beautiful beach).
Tour price: from 55,000 rubles (breakfast and dinner)

PAPHOS and LARNACA

  • 3 * Sunny Hill Hotel Apartments - a small apart-hotel in Paphos with 30 rooms, an unsightly beach 10 minutes walk; in general, a great option for a vacation like “we rent a car, see the island, cook at home”.
Tour price: from 42,000 rubles (without meals)
  • Palm Sea Beach Holiday - an ordinary city apart-hotel (with a kitchen), in the center of Larnaca, the sea is across the road, the beach is good; fast wi-fi, which is a rarity even for Cypriot "three rubles".
Tour price: from 50,000 rubles (without meals)

Cyprus Attractions - What to Do in April?

Entertainment and excursions will not make you think for a long time about what to do in Cyprus in April besides the beach.

Travel the whole country... In the summer heat, climbing ancient ruins and national parks is a dubious pleasure. The air temperature in Cyprus in April is much more suitable for these purposes. And you don't even have to be afraid to get heatstroke or burn out in the sun.

How to do it? To rent automobile (from € 10 per day). There are profitable options on RentalCars, just remember that there is left-hand traffic in Cyprus. Or book an excursion - By the way, it will be cheaper online than locally, search on Tripster.

What must be seen?

  • Paphos Archaeological Park with Roman mosaics, amphitheater and hippodrome
  • Villages in the Troodos mountains. The cleanest air, coniferous forests, ancient monasteries, cold rivers with trout, which will be fried cheaply in a tavern - they say that people fall in love with Cyprus after visiting the mountainous regions. Dress warmly, the temperature is lower here than on the coast
  • Ancient Orthodox monasteries: Kykkos, Neophytos, Stavruni (only men are allowed inside)
  • Petra tou Romiou (or Aphrodite's rock) - according to legend, the birthplace of Aphrodite. At sunset, stunning shots are obtained from panoramic platforms near the cliffs.
  • Cape Cavo Greco - a picturesque natural location
  • Avakas gorge. Wear comfortable shoes and hike the trail through the tangerine trees surrounded by rocks with wild goats (harmless)
Advice for those who will go by car on their own: follow the track until you hit the barrier, behind it is the entrance to the gorge. We parked the car much earlier - we had to stomp three times further
  • Famagusta, Salamis - ghost towns and ruins

Visit the tulip festival. In the first days of the month in the village of Polemi in the Paphos region, a big celebration takes place. What is there to do? Of course take pictures, watch folk dances and gorge yourself on Cypriot culinary masterpieces!

Celebrate Easter. Cyprus Easter (in 2021 from April 30 to May 7) is a beautiful and delicious event. Cypriots celebrate it for a whole week: decorating cities with eggs, brood hens and rabbits; bake traditional Easter buns with flaunes cheese; organize sports competitions in parks; blow up firecrackers and kindle fires.

By the way, during the celebration period some cafes and shops are closed, be careful.

Cyprus review in April 2019 - is it worth going?

In 2019, the spring was hot, the water warmed up early, so the reviews about Cyprus in April are only positive. But the weather is an unpredictable thing, and even if Cyprus in April 2021 does not present the same “almost summer”, it is definitely worth flying to the island.

If you dream of a seaside vacation in its usual sense (with swimming), then choose accommodation with a swimming pool, and ideally heated. The sea temperature can seem cool.

But lying in the sun would be a good idea. In April it is not so harsh, so sunbathing while sitting with your favorite book on half-empty beaches is a must-have.

It will be cheaper to relax in Cyprus in April than in May and summer. However, you will not be able to save on food - prices in Cyprus in cafes and taverns are the same throughout the year. In spring, by the way, locals collect fruits: oranges, grapefruits, tangerines and lemons, which are sold at every step for a penny (€ 0.5 per kg). It is also advised to try Cypriot strawberries, just ripe.

We remember Cyprus for its gigantic portions of delicious food and really cool natural and historical places. The main thing is not to miss the opportunity to get out of the hotel - then a vacation on the island will remain a pleasant memory, warming up on a cold winter evening at home.
